Follow these steps to file a Nevada mechanics lien and make sure you’re taking the right actions to protect your payment rights.

Step 1 — Confirm Notice of Right to Lien Compliance


Before filing a lien, confirm that the Notice of Right to Lien was properly served on all required parties and within the required timeframe. Failure to send this notice, or sending it late, can limit or eliminate lien rights.


Step 2 — Prepare the Nevada Mechanics Lien Form


Your Nevada Mechanics Lien requires specific information:

  • Legal property description

  • Property owner’s name

  • Hiring party’s information

  • Claimant’s information (you)

  • First and last date of work

  • Amount remaining unpaid

  • Description of labor/materials

  • Proof of Service affidavit

Step 3 — Record the Nevada Mechanics Lien with the County Recorder


The lien must be recorded with the County Recorder in the county where the property is located. The lien must be recorded within the 90-day deadline.

You may file:

  • In person

  • By mail

  • Electronically (varies by county)

Step 4 — Serve the Recorded Nevada Mechanics Lien on the Owner


After recording, a copy of the Nevada lien must be served on the property owner. Service is typically completed by certified mail, registered mail, or personal service, and proof of service should be retained.


Step 5 — Enforce the Nevada Mechanics Lien If You Remain Unpaid


If payment is not made, the lien must be enforced by filing a foreclosure lawsuit within six (6) months of recording the lien. Lien foreclosure is a court action, and attorney representation is strongly recommended.
